Character Building: A Group Study

characterIt takes a lot to be an artist. Its hard work and you endure hard times. It could be the toll of putting yourself “out” there, to putting long hours into a drawing that no one will ever see, or just surviving on nothing but peanut butter toast for a week.

But it all builds character as one laboriously builds characters on a page.

In this next show there is a cast of characters (artists) that are tied to exploring different avenues of “characters.”

Thomas calls his exploration “Obsessive Compulsive Doodling.” Through stream of conscious drawing which always yields a character that somewhat resembles a mesh of ideas or emotions that he finds floating around.

Diana Urbino exploits the fantasy of “suggestive” characters one would find in the back of any weekly magazine.

The character of one’s own identity is explored through self portraiture and some aspects of the work presented comments on society stereotypes that are found in the “cartoon type.”

The cast of artists for “Character Building” are in no particular order

Drink & Draw

judgesMonday night at the Mellow Mushroom was the place to be.  Don’t worry they have Drink & Draw every Monday from 7-9 p.m.

This Monday was extra special Ben Rogers,  Eddie Burrell, and myself were the judges for the weekly event.  There were so many talented artists that attended.  Picking a first through third place winner was not easy.

I highly recommend that people of all ages attend Drink & Draw.  Especially if you’re an artist.  It’s a great way to get to know your peers,  stay active in the Ft. Worth art community, and of course win some goodies.

I hope to see you next week, and thanks to everyone who participated in the past.
